Look at a picture of 6 yr old you, would you call that kid a dummy? Of course not.

Morning Platitude from The GratiDude

I have recognized that I need to focus on a particular ideal client profile for my coaching. Furthermore, I need to be very specific about the value that I’m delivering so that folks can understand and be motivated to make a move and to engage me.

If I could do one thing for everyone, it would be to elevate and make their internal self-talk more kind.

What I realize is that stripping aside all of the things that I think people could do to improve themselves and to better their health and wellness and their enjoyment of their life, it is the fundamental engagement of treating yourself like your own best friend that is Numero Uno. The talk and the chatter that you have internally and make sure that it is of the highest and kindest order.

Reframing your life as a life experience happening FOR you and not TO you, with the objective of learning and growing throughout the process, is a key fundamental way to change the narrative about what and how you’re doing in general.

This means you’re done comparing yourself to others because there is no one else that has had the same genetics in the same life experience as you so comparisons will be inherently flawed because they’re invalid by their very nature. Furthermore, you don’t know anything about anyone else’s life experience to be able to make an informed comparison, even if you wanted to, which is just another reason to not do it at all.

The pause for the cause when you wake up is the first step in shifting your internal dialogue.

You would never call your 6 year old self a dummy, so why do it now?

You cannot eat that shit sandwich for breakfast and expect to have fresh breath throughout the day.

The shit sandwich, as you’ve heard me referred to it, is the Russian roulette of information that comes across your phone first thing in the morning, which will immediately lessen your relaxation while activating your “fight or flight” mechanisms and speed up your sympathetic nervous system. In general, it will get you off to the races away from feeling good and moving towards feeling fear.

Furthermore, this early or first feeling or energy that you have during the day becomes a subconscious tuning fork tone that you will feel drawn back to, and if it’s not a good one you don’t want to keep coming back for more.

Yes, frequently calling yourself stupid can negatively impact your mental and emotional health by eroding self-esteem, increasing stress and anxiety, and potentially leading to feelings of inadequacy and even depression.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:

Erosion of Self-Esteem:

Consistently using negative labels like “stupid” can lead to internalizing those labels, which can damage your self-esteem and self-worth.

Increased Stress and Anxiety:

Harsh self-talk, like calling yourself stupid, is a form of self-criticism that can contribute to increased stress, anxiety, and even depression.

Feelings of Inadequacy:

When you constantly criticize yourself, you may start to feel inadequate and less capable, which can negatively impact your motivation and overall well-being.

Negative Cycle:

Negative self-talk can create a cycle where you anticipate failure, leading to further self-criticism and reinforcing negative beliefs about yourself.

Impact on Motivation and Action:

If you don’t believe in yourself or your abilities, you’re less likely to act or pursue your goals.

Replace Negative Self-Talk:

Instead of calling yourself names, try to reframe your self-talk more constructively. For instance, if something doesn’t go as planned, rather than saying, “I’m stupid,” try saying, “I made a mistake, and that’s okay. I can learn from this”.

Seek Support:

If you find yourself frequently engaging in negative self-talk, it’s important to seek support from a therapist or counselor.

Even if you get off track first thing in the morning, you still cannot throw in the towel on your day and do a reset through some breath work and through a conscious effort to get started on the good foot and not the bad foot.

Being grateful for yourself for caring for interrupting an unhealthy pattern and making a shift when you’re awareness aloud should be celebrated and could become a great way to start your day.

If I’m not careful, I’m going to need to start getting up at about 4 AM because I like to add cool little things that spark me or activate me in the morning to my routine. For example, I saw an old woman talking about some traditional Chinese movements that are great for getting your energy flowing in the morning and that are very silly looking. These weird morning movements involve some crouching and arm swinging. This new series of movements complements the alternative arm stretching I had already been doing as well as the somatic, jumping around movements I do as well before I meditate.

For years, I didn’t do any movements in the morning and didn’t notice any issues. However, I find that my whole system in mind and body really feel great when I jumpstart it with some jumping around for lack of a better term.

The cool thing is you can experiment with different things in the morning; breath work, gratitude, prayer, meditation, somatic movement, Chi Gong, tai chi, stretching, cold plunge, hot shower, sauna, steam bath, all of these things are cool and interesting ways to activate the mind and body to get you ready for another gift of life in the form of your day.

I’m here for it and I feel like if we can get everyone doing a good healthy morning routine it opens you up to a larger more consistent program of self-care and wellness and it could be just the ticket to elevate you for your next chapter for pursuing your next goal or dream or for simply enjoying yourself more in the pursuit of your personal greatness.

I’m enjoying leaning into my own learning and growth and evolution of this new career for me and I appreciate all of you supporting me by reading my ramblings in the morning and please know that my intentions are to serve everyone and provide as much value as possible, and I know, I sometimes look like a monkey humping a football trying to figure it out.

Thanks for your patience with me.

Thanks for your love and support, and for helping me maintain my own attitude of gratitude.
