Morning Platitude from The GratiDude
There’s only thing right now that would get Jay Z’s attention and make him forget about all of his other problems and issues and that would be if he had a catastrophic health incident.
If Jay Z went through whatever the hell poor Jamie Foxx went through and came out on the other side at least he would have a period of time where he would stop thinking about his 99 or 999 problems.
Because when health is your problem, all of the problems disappear and nothing else matters.
If we know this, and everyone agrees that it is a fact, how do we explain the giant gap between what we know and how we behave and take care of ourselves?
Why is it that there is a giant chasm between our ideal or at least healthy behavior in terms of physical activity and diet and everyone has access to this information.
Basic information like you need to burn more calories than you consume if you wish to lose weight.
It is important that you move your body and exercise in some fashion every single day.
You must express your feelings and your emotions and stay connected to your emotional state every single day.
You need to be nice to yourself.
Everyone knows these things yet very few are consistently practicing things like a morning routine, a consistent diet and a regular exercise regime in order to optimize ability to stay healthy and to have the luxury of being able to think about problems like relationships, financial work, whether or not your football team is going to win this weekend.
Those types of problems become luxuries if you are in dire health.
If you were struggling to breathe or it is even painful to laugh at that point it is very hard to be focused on things like getting a promotion or working through an argument that you had with your boyfriend.
I believe one of the challenges is that there isn’t enough emphasis on taking small steps at the very beginning of an endeavor to pursue better health.
The emphasis needs to be on baby steps, not suddenly flipping a switch and going vegan and lifting weights and running a few miles every day. Instead, starting with the foundation of your health, which is your breath.
Are you breathing from your mouth like roughly 50% of the population?
If so, there is nothing else we need to fix or start with other than this.
Yes, mouth breathing is generally considered worse for your health than nose breathing because the nose naturally filters, warms, and humidifies air, while mouth breathing bypasses these important functions, potentially leading to issues like dry mouth, throat irritation, dental problems, and even facial development issues, especially in children; therefore, nose breathing is the preferred method for optimal health.
Key points about why nose breathing is better:
Air filtration:
Nasal hairs trap dust, allergens, and pollutants, preventing them from entering your lungs.
Air humidification:
The nasal passages add moisture to the air, which is important for lung health.
Air warming:
The nose warms the air before it reaches your lungs.
Nitric oxide production:
Breathing through the nose helps produce nitric oxide, a gas that relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow.
Potential negative effects of mouth breathing:
Dental issues: Increased risk of cavities, gum disease, and misaligned teeth
Dry mouth: Can lead to throat irritation and bad breath
Facial development problems: In children, chronic mouth breathing can affect jaw growth and facial structure
Sleep disturbances: May contribute to snoring and sleep apnea
When is mouth breathing acceptable?
Nasal congestion:
If your nose is blocked due to a cold or allergies, temporary mouth breathing is necessary.
Strenuous exercise:
During intense physical activity, mouth breathing may be needed to get enough oxygen.
Mouth breathing kills you, it makes you sick, and it is extremely inefficient and we can’t fix anything around your physical mental or emotional state until we fix your breathing.
FACT: The way we breathe, and the way our faces and respiratory system have evolved has changed dramatically over just the last few hundred years, and the result is a protruding nose and a much less efficient breathing and respiratory system.
Without getting too geeked out on you, take a look at skulls from even 300, 400, 500 years ago and you will see differences, and I mean significant differences, in the size and the width of air holes and air passages in our ancestors.
Everybody breathe better and through their nose because it was way easier way more efficient way more productive than the de facto form of breathing.
If your New Year’s resolution was to exercise more or to start meditating, neither of those goals are possible until you learn how to breathe first.
That’s the cool thing about having an entrepreneur and a Growth mentality is I don’t mind making mistakes and trying things in my coaching endeavors and with the www.grateful4.org because all I do is simply learn and grow in the process.
Our first Self-Sherpa session explored the importance of breathing, however we didn’t stress enough the importance of breathing and some of the other fundamentals of building your own morning routine as your foundation of health and wellness practice could have been emphasized much more.
If this was learning how to swim, we only helped the advanced swimmers because we skipped right over wearing Floaties and learning how to dog paddle and we asked everyone to just jump in the deep end of the pool and start doing 500 m breaststroke when they had just learned how to not sink.
Ooops. Thanks for your understanding folks. 😊
We’ve changed our approach for our next session starting in February next month, and we are going to give everyone, even those more advanced swimmers, the tools they need to start slowly and build their own practice from the ground up or one stroke at a time in the shallow end of the pool.
Coaching is new to me here in the last year, so I’m not worried about making mistakes and trying to act like an expert because I’m not. What I am is super diligent, bright, but with a massive heart and incredible amounts of energy and determination. It is these latter attributes that make the Grateful 4 Organization both an immediate and a sure-thing long-term success. Inevitable and immediate simply through our loving intention and our energetic effort.
These are not empty words I am telling you from my heart that if you are not breathing consistently with long deep inhalation and exhalation all day every day, you have no idea how incredible life can be.
I’m not exaggerating.
I’m not goofing around at all.
I’m being 100% honest with you.
It starts with breath, and if you give us the opportunity, we will both explain to you why, and also how you can take tiny little practical steps today, tomorrow in the next day to improve your breathing, your ability to be present and the overall enjoyment of your life experience.
Isn’t that what it’s all about, enjoying this life as much as we can?
I’ll answer that for you. Yes it is!
We are here to walk each other home in a compassionate manner, and taking care of ourselves with self-love and self-care is the ultimate way that we can show our attitude of gratitude.
