Morning Platitude from The GratiDude

Like so many things that I learned about and was exposed to when I moved to California in 1988, the Eselen Institute was right up there as an introduction into the “new way” of thinking and being that was more openly explored in California than it seemed to be where I had grown up in Michigan.

https://www.esalen.org/

The Esalen Institute was one of the early pioneers in exploring the connections between physical ailments injuries, past trauma, or non-integrated negative or traumatic emotional life experiences.

It was here and in conversations with healers and health practitioners that I started to learn about some of the causes and emotional roots behind my right shoulder injury, e.g., my baseball throwing arm.

In summary, I subconsciously attempted to change my throwing motion as part of an overall effort to protect my heart and close off the front of my chest. FYI, when you see someone whose posture has their shoulders turned inward, it is often a sign of a broken heart.

It is now common understanding and knowledge that everything plays part in our physical health and things like anxiety and worry and stress are often the things that trigger are most severe physical reactions.

Interestingly enough, treating the EMOTIONAL situation will alleviate the PHYSICAL situation.

This happens ALL the time, and often times the sickness or illness comes from a sedentary lifestyle, not connection to nature, no connection to your body. Sometimes, you just be the need to move your body!

There are also early signs of physical ailments that will tip you off that you need to make changes in your lifestyle and do things a bit differently.

Your clothes will tell you if you’ve gained weight, if you feel winded from walking upstairs that used to be a breeze, you should take note, and if you start losing a bunch of feathers, you had better get your butt moving and start dancing right away.

Yes, emotional problems can manifest in physical symptoms, and the mind and body are not separate:

Somatic symptoms

These are physical symptoms that express emotional distress. For example, you might feel your heart race or have butterflies in your stomach when you’re nervous.

Mental health disorders

Symptoms of mental health disorders can appear as physical problems, such as headaches, stomach pain, back pain, or other unexplained aches and pains.

Psychosomatic disorders

These occur when mental stress and distress cause or worsen a physical condition and its symptoms. For example, stress may raise blood sugar levels for people with diabetes.

Autoimmune disorders

Stress and trauma can trigger autoimmune disorders like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, psoriasis, and rheumatic arthritis.

Some ways to manage physical symptoms associated with stress include: Incorporating relaxation into your daily routine, Mindful meditation, Deep breathing, Taking breaks from stressful activities, and Planning time for fun.

I have a friend who is a high-powered lawyer in New York City and realize they had to cut their workload in half because it was killing them.

Migraine headaches to the point of nausea and for a few years, their life had turned into just work and surviving the headaches with no time for self or things like hobbies and life enjoyment.

It was his body’s way of telling him that he was out of balance, and that the headaches would keep coming as long as my friend refused to take care of himself.

There were many times in my life where I went extended periods of time, ignoring and denying health symptoms, having bleeding gums when I brush my teeth, noticing that I had to go down a belt loop, but still having a beer at lunch, all sorts of behaviors that were self-destructive, but always at the times when I wasn’t aligned emotionally and spiritually.

I don’t make self-destructive decisions(does ice cream count?) or ignore health maladies or symptoms when I meditate every single day because my mind is ultra clear, and everything is aligned towards operating at my highest level.

Just another benefit of a daily mindfulness practice that can even be just a few minutes in the morning before you grab your phone and get sucked into the matrix and the world of responsibility and making money.

Taking that precious time and investing into connecting with your higher self and creating a frequency or a vibration that you can return to throughout the day when you feel off balance is kind of like using a tuning fork to get back to pitch when you were a musician or a singer.

Starting your day with some deep breaths and a thank you gives you a “homebase “to operate from energetically as you can close your eyes or keep them open and take a few deep breaths and remember the feeling in the morning you created of being thankful for simply being alive.

Create it again.

And again.

Go back to the basics to come back to the generous present moment of now.

We share these tools because when they are applied to your life, you can and will enjoy your reality and experience more.

That’s it.

Other have generously shared the tools, the wisdom, the knowledge and pointed us in the right direction for the right books and introduced us to the right people.

We are morally and spiritually obligated to share everything that we have encountered that might be beneficial just like a Momma bird is obligated to bring back the best food to the mouth of her baby birds.

I’m not your mama, but I want to feed you tasty food, and this morning what’s on the menu is an attitude of gratitude.
