Morning Meditation from The GratiDude
Once you accept the fact that people are in our lives for varying periods of time, it becomes logical to focus on the quality of the connection vs. the time spent together or the duration.
It would be a big mistake if you told yourself that the people who have had the greatest influence on you are simply the ones that you have known the longest and have been around you the most.
Well, from a probability and pure energetic/repetition standpoint, that could hold true.
However, there are other people that jump on the train( known as your life ) for just one stop and jump off, and you will never be seen again, but even THOSE passengers can leave an indelible mark upon your soul and you don’t need to dust for fingerprints to find out if it’s true or not.
I think about people who I had short conversations with that left massive impressions on me and I’ll share just a few.
When we were pivoting and diversifying our business to move beyond just GOLF at GPS industries, we leveraged our technology platform, both software and hardware, to create new offerings in the student transportation space E. G. School Bus Transportation technology.
In 2015, I was returning from a student transportation tradeshow put on by a super cool cat out of Southern California, named Tony Corpin, and his publication and business School Transportation News, or STN. Tony is a gem of a human; super bright business guy and he loves golf as well.
https://stnonline.com/ More on this market and Tony’s publication here.
The STN event was in Reno, and I remember having time before my flight out and being in the bar as I always would be if there wasn’t a proper lounge available to me for Delta passengers. At the Terminal 3 Jose Cuervo bar in a sun filled window lined room overlooking the runways and the Sierra Nevada mountains in the background. I met an interesting Lawyer. This Attorney, who was visiting a BIG Client in the Reno area, had his own law firm specializing in cannabis law.
It would be no surprise to tell you that he started in California where medical legalization of cannabis got started, however, he was now offing primarily in Colorado, another state that is fully recreational when it comes to the sales of cannabis products for legally compliant adults.
His law firm’s business had exploded due to all the different nuances of state regulations, the challenges of not having federal banking access, the complexities of supply chains in a new industry, the volatility of being involved in an agriculture product or growing plants for your business.
This industry was booming and needed legal representation and legal help, and my new friend in Reno decided he would lend a helping hand, even though he didn’t know much about the cannabis business and wasn’t particularly a weed smoker himself. He was a good lawyer who saw tremendous opportunity, so he jumped in and offered his services to some exceptionally large entrepreneurs running grow and dispensary operations in the western United States.
He found that this group of businesspeople was just like any other there were good ones and bad ones, cool ones and mean ones. However, the industry was growing rapidly, and there was a lot of positive energy and excitement around the space which he found really invigorating after years of practicing other laws.
What he got was much more than you ever imagined.
A few years earlier, he told me, he had showed up for a meeting at his own office with a very successful Cannabis Entrepreneur who was paying him a great deal of money to hold him on retainer. This Biz Owner was literally making millions of dollars a year in pure profit at this point and was looking for a sophisticated Lawyer to help him expand and scale strategically.
This wasn’t some tie-dyed hippie weed grower. This was a bad ass businessperson who had been successful and everything he had ever done.
My new lawyer friend showed up five minutes early for his meeting, no problems, dressed very well however he had drunk quite a bit of scotch the night before and he was hung over.
As he walked into the meeting, he could smell the alcohol coming out of his pores and he knew he wasn’t at his best, so he really tried to focus and clutched his cup of coffee closely.
The multimillionaire grower dude took one look at our Lawyer friend, and said “you may be dressed nice, but you look like shit. Did you not sleep well last night?”
BOOM! Some REAL talk, out of nowhere.
The lawyer confessed that he slept OK, but he had an old friend over and they had a couple too many scotches.
The grower asked directly “you seem like a nice guy and a smart guy for sure why don’t you just meditate, exercise, or smoke a joint and stop killing yourself, bro?”
The Ganja Tycoon with multiple homes and massive cash savings explained to the Lawyer about what alcohol was doing at that moment to his body the challenges he was having metabolizing it why he felt like shit and that he was shaving days off of his life that he wouldn’t be able to spend with his family.
The businessperson grower also told him that he didn’t appreciate him not being his absolute best when he was paying him a lot of money to have him on retainer, and he should perhaps think about that the night before and not have that last scotch.
The meeting shook my lawyer friend to his core, and he realized that he didn’t have a great relationship with alcohol.
Long story short, this lawyer actually quit drinking, as he booked an appointment at Mayo Clinic for a conversation and full body scan(including liver) and was telling me the story at the bar as he watched me order my third vodka soda.
The Lawyer used some CBD drops in an eye dropper, and other new ways to consume cannabis like topicals and tinctures for sleep as he was weening himself off alcohol he told me, and he swore up and down on the benefits of that shit for sleep.
The Lawyer told me he smoked Marlboros as a teenager and he did not want to smoke again, as he had already quit smoking cigarettes and he did not want to start smoking cannabis, even if it was not as bad.
I saved his business card, just as a reminder of the story that the Weed Tycoon told him about what alcohol was doing to him, and that I knew God put this man into my life as one more kick in the dick to get me to quit drinking.
God works through people, like Weed Lawyers in Reno.
One conversation, or one gig being in a music video, can change EVERYTHING!
Yes, one conversation can potentially change your life, as it can act as a catalyst for significant personal growth, shift your perspective on a major issue, or even lead to a life-altering decision, depending on the depth and impact of the discussion and your receptiveness to the ideas presented.
Why can a single conversation be so impactful:
New perspectives:
A conversation with someone who has a different viewpoint can open your eyes to new possibilities or challenge your existing beliefs, leading to a change in your outlook.
Motivation and inspiration:
Hearing a compelling story or receiving encouragement from another person can motivate you to act towards a goal or make a significant life change.
Emotional catharsis:
Sometimes, simply expressing your feelings and being heard by another person can provide a sense of relief and clarity, allowing you to move forward.
Critical information:
A conversation can provide crucial information that prompts you to make a weighty decision or pursue a new path.
Another person that was in my life for a fleeting period of time that made a tremendous impact was Joseph McClendon III, the Life coach for Doran Andry in Southern California.
Coach’s stuff here, a Legend amongst Legends sent by God to Help Me:
Joseph McClendon III a.k.a. “Coach” as Doran called him, is the guy that pulled me into a conference room when he heard me calling myself stupid and forced me to create my first mantra and taught me the truth in the wonders of self-talk and neuroscience.
The single conversation I had with him, I will never forget, and again it is quality over quantity.
When you are present in the moment, when you are talking with people, feeling their energy, and making eye contact, you can have tremendous impact and make tremendous connection in a brief period of time.
People fall in love in an instant, and friendships are created in a moment, so be present be here now and that’s an attitude of gratitude
