I’m not sure why I like to encourage my friends to celebrate their small victories. It may be because I’ve managed a bunch of sales people over the years and I’ve done a lot of deals and sales work so that I know every project and deal and partnership take lots of tiny steps, so celebrating little milestones and victories and progresses along the way is a really healthy way to not get discouraged and to stay patient in the process.

It’s also good to notice who is engaged with the things that you’re doing and asking questions or staying current and recognizing milestones in your achievements that may happen pretty rarely. Those folks are tremendously important in your life because they are organically showing you consistently that they are on your squad by staying current and in tune with your projects and happenings.

And when your friends do something really spectacular like hit a home run, you should be dancing your ass off and partying like it’s 1999 to make sure that the moment is marked and that you’re showing that you’re willing to make a fool of yourself in the name of celebrating their greatness.

Yes, supporting your friends is a healthy and beneficial practice, contributing to both your own well-being and the strengthening of your friendships.

Here’s why supporting your friends is healthy:

Improved Mental Health:

Supporting friends can reduce stress, improve mood, and boost self-esteem, as well as enhance your own mental and emotional well-being.

Stronger Friendships:

Offering support and being there for your friends can deepen your bond and build trust, leading to stronger and more fulfilling friendships.

Reduced Social Isolation:

Having a supportive network of friends can combat loneliness and feelings of isolation, which are linked to various health issues.

Improved Physical Health:

Studies show that strong social connections are associated with a lower risk of depression, heart disease, and even an increased lifespan.

Enhanced Problem-Solving:

Supportive friends can help you navigate challenges and find solutions to problems, fostering resilience and confidence.

Increased Sense of Belonging:

Being a part of a supportive group of friends can provide a sense of belonging and acceptance, which is crucial for overall well-being.

Improved Communication Skills:

Supporting friends can help you develop better communication skills by listening actively, offering empathy, and providing constructive feedback.

Increased Empathy and Compassion:

Being there for your friends can cultivate empathy and compassion, allowing you to better understand and connect with others.

Reciprocal Support:

When you support your friends, they are more likely to support you in return, creating a positive cycle of mutual support.


Jeremy Gardon, who won the Korn Ferry ClubCar event this past weekend in Savannah at the Landings was from France and didn’t have any fans really to speak of rooting for him and when he sunk the winning putt and was there on the green, there was no girlfriend or entourage rushing out to him, but eventually someone who look like a manager type or an insider of some kind, ran out and splashed him with a bottle of water just to mark the moment and to make it official.



That’s a cool thing to do at your place of work or in a business setting if somebody crushes in a meeting or does a really great job and a presentation or even handles the conversation really well in a business setting you should feel free to mark the moment by buying them a celebratory cappuccino or a congratulatory Blueberry muffin.

The point being you’re sending a message of support, a message that you’re aware of their efforts and the thoughtfulness that they’re putting into their professional endeavors, and that you recognize the light in them and so you’re sharing a little bit of the light inside of you.

This is another one of my reminders to encourage you to be generous with the kindness that you show and to don’t feel like it needs to be a big achievement to celebrate it to celebrate even the smallest when like my bro down in Austin, Texas Darren Kay Roberts wrote about in his last book “Microwins”.
If you’re writing a book and you told yourself that you needed to get some work done on it today and you ended up writing 100 words, celebrate that shit.

The point being here is that every incremental step the tiniest step is one of 1000 steps in the journey under one’s foot and being both focused and grateful for your small steps as well as your big leaps is a great way to stay energized and focused and to continue to expand and look for ways to nourish your attitude of gratitude.
