Is there a skinny kid hanging out somewhere, looking for a way to get in? Let him in, won’t you? He will never forget you for it.

Grateful: for my relationships in golf that have evolved over the last 25+ years. The great ones have accepted me and encouraged me and gotten closer, which is incredible.

It is one thing to feel grateful and appreciative when someone has done something kind for you or gone out of their way to have influence in your life. It is an entirely different thing to both feel all those emotions and then be committed and hell-bent on expressing gratitude directly to the person responsible for the kind deeds or actions that have made you feel so appreciative.
Closing the loop emotionally and energetically is what I like to call that.
It is the model for our nonprofit in the Grateful4 Organization:
Our direct grant approach will allow anyone to express their own gratitude in a philanthropic manner with direct cash payments to individuals interacting with the youth daily.
No bureaucracy, no middleman just a wire transfer to the checking account of the coach, the teacher, the employee at the Boys and Girls Club, the priest, or the community volunteer.
Cha-Ching. The Sound of Gratitude being Introduced to the Youth.
Let’s not wait for a government or some other political entity to do the right thing and reward the right people. We will be waiting all day, and a much better plan is to take the Bull by the horns ourselves and reward the people in our community in whatever manner they were capable of manifesting their good works.
Even if it is simple, thank you note which we are all capable of writing. That carries great meaning because it is rare for someone to write a thank you note these days by hand.
Or it may be Financial if you were in a position to do that and find ways to direct funds either through our organization or another directly to the proper people in your community that could use financial backing and some resources in order to execute their game plan of upliftment in the community.
So skinny, tall, and scrawny Calvin Broadus from the LBC hanging out outside of the arena in Inglewood while still in high school or his late teens is a precious story.
Calvin Broadus became Snoop Dogg.
Jim Gray is the guy that brought him into the Arena for the VIP intros, and Snoop never ever forgot it.
God works through people, and when we share the love and kindness of the universe and of God with our brothers and sisters, also of God, the entire universe smiles, and the impact can often be vast and beyond our imagination.
We cannot control the impact of how our kindness affects or improves the lives or does not improve the lives of the people that we interact with, there’s a lot going into how folks receive information from a timing and a personal experience standpoint.
However, the exercise is extremely healthy for the person offering up the love and kindness, no matter what the result and the process needs to be honored practiced and followed as often as possible, in order to expand your hearts capacity to love and to improve the quality of life for all of us here during our short, walk home on earth.
At one time, it must’ve been extremely hard for the young man now known as The “S-to the N-Double-Oh-P-You See” to stand outside the arena and expressing dreams like “I just want to latch onto the team (The Lakers) somehow….. maybe be a ball boy or something.”
Incredible right?
Yes, acts of kindness can create lasting memories, as the positive emotions associated with them tend to be deeply ingrained in our minds, making them more vivid and memorable compared to other experiences; essentially, the feeling of doing good for someone else can leave a lasting impression that you can recall later on.
Key points about kindness and memory:
Positive emotions:
When we perform acts of kindness, our brains release chemicals like oxytocin and dopamine, which are associated with feelings of happiness and well-being, contributing to stronger memory formation.
Impact on the receiver:
The positive impact of kindness on the recipient can also amplify the memory for the giver, as witnessing someone’s gratitude can further strengthen the experience.
Significant moments:
Acts of kindness that occur during particularly meaningful or challenging times are even more likely to be remembered vividly
The wonderful thing was that Snoop kept showing up. He kept dreaming. He was always positive and high energy and kind with everyone he met, even as they rebuffed his request for assistance, and he stood outside the arena night after night.
And then Jim Gray gave him a taste and Snoop never forgot it, and that taste was everything.
Who can we GIVE a taste to today?
Who is an up-and-coming person working hard in our community or our company that we can dip down and elevate and surprise with some epic kindness and a small lift?
We don’t have to be big powerful people to provide an incredible amount of help, even asking folks the question: “I’ve been thinking about you a great deal lately, is there anything that I could do for you now that would help you thrive?.”
You WANT them to thrive.
You are here to HELP them thrive.
You see them where they ARE.
These are all the messages in that simple question.
Keep your eyes peeled for the folks that you can elevate, and as soon as you complete that task, breathe that in and feel how great it feels to celebrate the interconnectedness of all our lives when we choose an attitude of gratitude.
