Morning Meditation from The GratiDude

There’s a quote by Bob Marley that’s repeated often for many different situations. That simply is “who feels it knows it.” Hard to argue with that logic.

It’s really a statement of how consciousness and our own reality dictate what life is, and what the experience feels like, and it also reinforces the fact that people outside of us can’t ever fully understand our particular and unique journey.  And that’s OK, all that should serve to do is continue to reinforce and inform us on our own need to be more tolerant and exercise less judgment in our own daily lives.

Who feels it knows it can also go to our own subjective experiences of suffering and pain as well as to what makes us happy or “floats our boat “ is also as unique as our own fingerprint or as an individual snowflake can be.

My own kid is a notable example in that they have a mind that is well suited for science and math in terms of both understanding, formulas, remembering concepts, and doing test and exams. They have never had a problem in these subject matter areas. My kid enjoys these tough classes, and in most situations and families, they would be directed towards a career in those fields, medicine, or engineering.  And those may be the fields that my kid ends up working in, however they’re also doing something at school that they find even more interesting and challenging and that’s culinary arts.

It’s interesting that my kid has like a 4.5 grade point average but wants to learn how to create a traditional frittata or to bake sourdough bread from scratch for example.

You just never know what is going to resonate or attract you or draw you in in this life experience however, when you feel it, you should know it.

Are you connected to your breath and present to recognize your own feelings?

What is it that you LOVE to do, that you haven’t done in quite some time?

Go on a spontaneous adventure?

Visit an old friend?

Get up and dance?

What is it, Bro? Do it today.

Many older people often wish they could still do things like: travel easily, stay up late without feeling tired, perform physically demanding activities, maintain high energy levels, recover quickly from injuries, easily learn new skills, have better flexibility and mobility, and enjoy certain foods without digestive issues, all of which tend to decline with age.

Key points about what older people might wish they could still do:

Physical abilities:

Run or walk long distances without fatigue

Bend and lift heavy objects with ease

Dance with the same agility as before

Play sports at a competitive level

Stay up late without feeling tired

Mental abilities:

Learn new things quickly

Remember details without needing to write them down

Concentrate for extended periods

Multitask effectively

Social aspects:

Go on spontaneous adventures with friends

Attend social events without feeling exhausted

Travel to faraway places without worrying about physical limitations

Have you gotten over all of the societal fear that is peddled everywhere to be able to be calm and present so that you can listen to the voice of your higher self as it lets you know that maybe you should be cracking an egg instead of staring at a computer screen?

Or authoring that book, painting that painting, doing that dance?

I look at my life when I was younger and how my brother and I were exposed to all of the same things and only a year apart and while he enjoyed playing sports as just another activity for me, I just loved and fed off of the feedback, loop of effort and results and feeling connected to my body.  I sometimes wonder what it was about either dribbling a basketball or hitting a baseball or just running on a field that has always brought me joy and a feeling of Zen and connectedness that I will always cherish.

And I enjoyed the competition, and I was a fierce competitor. I enjoyed the camaraderie of teammates, even more in the shared experience of struggle, loss, victory, and all that it reveals in the process.  I learned a great deal about leadership by seeing what inspired me, and simply copying behaviors.  I learned by example that challenging work and dealing with different personalities were great leadership characteristics, for example.

When you feel your heart being pulled in a direction like towards a violin player or towards an activity or away from a bad habit and towards a good habit, it’s important that we breathe into that and honor that feeling in real time.

If it is healthy and does not hurt someone else, let’s explore it and see where it takes you. This way you will make sure that you’re not missing out on a calling or something that is urging you to try and experience or to rekindle an old hobby or perhaps an old activity that has always brought you joy.

When you consciously make the effort to stay connected to your breath the signals are clear and strong and with no static.  Go ahead and  dial in your tuner to receive the loud broadcasting signal of your Spirit’s attitude of gratitude.
