Morning Meditation from The GratiDude

Back in 2003 I remember catching up with a friend from the golf industry that I hadn’t spoken to in a few years when we ran into each other in San Francisco.

We were both at a golf event at Harding Park now TPC Harding Park and he looked a little bit surprised to see me.

He said something along the lines of “I heard that merger that you guys did with Prolink was all fucked up and that you bailed on the business and rumor had it left all together and were considering becoming a Buddhist monk or something.”

I started laughing hard and then he did too once he realized it was OK to laugh and that I wasn’t offended or worried about the rumors of shaving my head and heading to the mountain top.

Afterwards, I kind of thought about it and I wondered what it was about either my energy or something I said to someone that made somebody literally just makes something up out of thin air like that that was pretty radical in terms of a departure from what my true reality was at that time.

Far from being a Buddhist monk, but I was back living in Northern California and for many people I guess that’s about the same as giving it all up and moving to a monastery, ha!

What made me think, though for the first time since I had gotten into the business world, was that there was something about my energy that was saying I wasn’t completely content or satisfied with what I was doing.  Whoever started the Buddhist monk rumor must have felt a “vibe” of me being discontent, who knows? Or, realized I needed to start meditating, and then just decided to get super creative and make up something up a good story.

In any case,  when you meet me and you talk to me,  you will see that NOW, there’s just no faking the funk.

It is so clear to me and anyone that will listen to my happy ass that I am doing all the things I’ve dreamed about for many years and simply figuring out the brand building and monetization along the way.

I started a nonprofit with no clue, and I felt like a monkey trying to hump a football and I was equally effective.

But I learned the time and now I understand what I want to do, how I want to do it and how I can do it that will benefit the most amount of people.

That is also something I’ve realized is how I learn and get better is not by studying from the sidelines, but really getting in there and just starting and doing it and being OK making mistakes and learning from those mistakes.

The challenging part is that in the real world mistakes mean money and if you make enough mistakes and don’t make enough good decisions, it’s hard to always keep doing what you’re doing or to do all the things that you want to do efficiently and effectively as you need resources to get things done.

I love the guy in this studio because he’s a subject matter expert and some of these R&B songs given the amount of time it must’ve taken for him to perfect the intimations and accent and to do it in a place with limited access to all of the cultural elements that would support such expression.

To me I can feel this contentment, his heart, his soul being so aligned and happy when he’s singing Me songs and especially as he drinks in this surprised and appreciative reactions from the patrons who instantly become fans of his smooth crooning.

Yes, letting your personality shine can have positive impacts on your mental and emotional health, contributing to overall well-being by boosting self-esteem, reducing stress, fostering stronger relationships, and promoting a sense of authenticity, which are all factors that can positively influence your health.

Key points about the health benefits of expressing your personality:

Increased self-esteem:

When you embrace your true self, it can lead to a stronger sense of self-worth and confidence, which are crucial for mental well-being.

Reduced stress:

Suppressing your personality can lead to internal conflict and stress, while expressing yourself authentically can alleviate that pressure.

Stronger relationships:

People tend to connect better with individuals who are genuine and present their authentic selves.

Positive emotions:

Expressing your personality can lead to increased feelings of joy, happiness, and fulfillment.

Improved coping mechanisms:

Understanding your personality strengths can help you navigate challenges and develop healthy coping strategies.

Another thing I really love about this Performer is there any provides a living reminder of the fact that your true path is not always going to be popular, popular, or commonplace in your community.  However, when you really think about it, that makes it more important and vital that you pursue that true calling.

Do you really think in this little town in China that there are dozens of R&B singers that have perfected songs and mannerisms to this degree of perfection? Of course not.

If this guy weren’t out there singing these songs who would?

In that sense, we all have a responsibility and obligation to the source of all life, love, energy, and life from which we come to honor the gifts that come with this experience of being human.

We should look at our gifts as if we’ve received them in advance of doing the work and that we have a contract to fulfill to manifest the greatness that comes from the ingredients that we already own.

Grab the mic and put on your finest black polyester suit and don’t worry if you have a huge crowd or if you’re just singing to the stars because you are following your path with an attitude of gratitude.
