Morning Meditation from The GratiDude
The social programming for Men around the concept of strength is the fundamental reason we enjoy a shorter average lifespan than our female counterparts.
Being “strong” in modern western society would certainly include NOT sharing your true feelings. Ever. And a few of the following personality, traits, or characteristics:
Being big
Lack of showing emotion
Not crying
Having defined musculature physically
Using force to get your way
Disavowing the feminine within you
In Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and all traditional medicine going back in antiquity, it was recognized that human beings were a combination of both male and female within their own organism. In TCM, your right side is your Yang side and your masculine side, and your left side is your more feminine or your yin side.
Balance is what makes everything work that is called homeostasis in our own organism, and embracing everything that we are as the union of the biology of our biological parents is a healthy approach and a sustainable approach to viewing our own experience.
So, what is true strength?
True strength is the ability to persevere and to find ways to express your feelings, be vulnerable, so you can create the internal dialogue to not give up.
Realizing that you are NOT weak when you confess to being scared, you are NOT weak when you share feelings of vulnerability, you are NOT weak when you cry and let your emotions out.
And if you don’t let those feelings out, let that steam release, you can’t be healthy OR fight illness.
Holding your emotions and feelings in is considered unhealthy, as it can lead to stress, anxiety, physical health problems, and difficulty managing relationships by preventing you from expressing your needs and concerns effectively; acting like a pressure cooker that can eventually explode in unhealthy ways.
Key points about suppressing emotions:
Mental health impacts:
Bottling up emotions can contribute to mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and mood swings.
Physical health concerns:
Suppressed emotions can manifest physically through symptoms like headaches, stomach problems, and increased blood pressure.
Relationship difficulties:
Not expressing your emotions can strain relationships by preventing open communication and understanding.
Emotional outbursts:
When emotions are held in for too long, they can sometimes erupt unexpectedly in uncontrolled bursts.
What to do instead:
Acknowledge your emotions: Be aware of your feelings and accept them as valid.
Healthy expression: Find healthy ways to express your emotions, like talking to a trusted friend, journaling, or engaging in physical activity.
Seek professional help: If you struggle to manage your emotions, consider therapy to develop coping mechanisms
The energy of progress or of an intention to either improve or progress or to realize our own potential in a particular situation or in general, is enough.
We don’t need a spreadsheet to measure and to compare.
We just need to keep moving forward in the pursuit of our own style of greatness and of enjoying this ride of life.
Right here in our community and Sarasota there are literally dozens of people just like this young man that are “finding a way”, in the words of my good friend Merrill Hoge, every single day to keep persevering in their battle simply to survive and to experience the gift of life for just one more day.
These struggles and battles simply to continue to participate as part of the living family need to be celebrated so that these examples of courage and strength can help other people muster the motivation to continue moving forward with whatever their personal struggle or challenges at that moment.
This is the reason that we publish this blog every single morning, and that we always include an uplifting story within the content as part of our noticeably clear strategy of having the reader experience the wonders of neuroscience through this daily GIFT content rooted in abundance and not fear.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
I’m heading up to St. Pete to enjoy a show from a band called GOOSE after afternoon meetings that my partner and coach Roberto Toomey has dialed me into.
Later today, as we approach 5 o’clock, I will morph completely into my Spirit Animal and Halloween persona of the Tootsie Roll Wise Old Owl from the 1970s commercial.

Hankering for a lollipop? Please look for me at St. Pete near the Pier, otherwise you’re on your own, Sucker(get it? Can’t call you a lollipop but Sucker works )!
Look for me, laughing and licking and sharing with an attitude of gratitude.
