Morning Meditation from The GratiDude

We knew we had to make it to Detroit and to the Fox Theatre for the big motor city mix DJ competition and concert featuring Egyptian lover and the group Newcleus.

The year was 1983 my bro Tony Fisher a.k.a. DJ Treble Tee and I were crazy about music and hip-hop in particular. We had been investing in equipment and records and studying other DJs practicing however we weren’t even 16 years old yet and didn’t have a driver’s license to be able to go to the show an hour away in Detroit.

I can’t remember which mom drove and which mom picked up, but I do remember that it was Phyllis and Eugenia that drove, and they split the duties.

That night in the DJ competition, a woman won the competition name Stacey, which was shocking and the live music from Egyptian lover and newcleus did not disappoint.

This video here features a hip-hop dancer who is my age. It is fifties and was a teenager as well when this song came out the theme song really for the Egyptian lover, the song was simply called “Egypt”.

A legendary hip-hop techno hop song and track and reminder for me the importance of staying in touch with that pure joy and energy that comes from participating and leaning into things that you enjoy in the form of hobbies activities, sports, especially when you can share it with someone that you love I have been able to with my brother Tony all these years.

of joy and wonder that might have faded over time; essentially enriching your overall wellbeing by revisiting passions from your childhood.

Key benefits of doing kid-like activities as an adult:

Stress relief:

Engaging in playful activities can be a great way to de-stress and unwind.

Creativity boost:

Activities like drawing, building things, or playing pretend can spark creativity and encourage outside-the-box thinking.

Social connection:

Participating in activities that involve others, like playing games or going to the park, can help build and maintain social connections.

Physical activity:

Many childhood activities, like playing outside or jumping rope, can provide valuable exercise.

Positive emotions:

Reliving happy childhood memories can trigger positive emotions and improve mood.

Examples of childhood activities to incorporate as an adult:

Playing outdoors: Going for walks, bike rides, playing frisbee, or simply sitting in nature

Arts and crafts: Drawing, painting, sculpting, or building things

Creative writing: Journaling, writing short stories, or poetry

Playing games: Board games, card games, video games

Reading for fun: Picking up a favorite childhood book or exploring new genres

Learning a new skill: Taking up a hobby you were interested in as a child, like playing an instrument or learning a new language

Obviously, we feel a lot of pressure to put away childish things in the form of frivolous activities, however, we’ve overcorrected in that regard.  many of us could use some injections of joy and a return to the roots and remember the art that you liked  to do in elementary school, or the music you jammed to in junior high, or the types of movies that you enjoyed watching with friends.  Any  of those activities that connect you to a more “flow state” time in your life before you got two wrapped up and being overly  concerned about other people’s opinions.  Those are activities that would still resonate with your higher self  today.

Today I’m playing golf with my buddies Jim and Luke, and they are cool with the way I play golf and how I treat it like recess in terms of enjoying the walk, my music nature and not being concerned with outcomes or results.

They accept me for who I am and they’re so fun to play with. They’re both good and we play early and get done with the whole day ahead of us, which I really love.

I hope you have some recess at School today(no school on Sundays) and take some time to celebrate and appreciate another “kiss on the forehead from creation” to wake up with, being part of the living family again and the opportunity to share the love in our heart and continually expand our attitude of gratitude.
