Morning Meditation from The GratiDude
If you are a golfer, I have a little experiment for you. One of my mentors once explained to me that because everything is energy and that we are all energy as human beings, we need to be incredibly careful with our thoughts relative to how they may come back to us from a karmic standpoint. Let me explain.
If you’ve ever played golf regularly, then you know that gambling or betting is often part of the game, in fact, some studies have put the frequency of wagering during golf to be as high as three-fourths of every round of golf played recreationally. Inevitably then there’s a golfer you’ve been in a situation waiting for an opponent to putt or hit a tea shot that was critical importance to the match or competition or bet that you have going on.
In that moment, it’s extremely easy for your ego, especially in a competitive situation, to muster negative energy and thoughts directed at the outcome of your opponent’s shot. Not negative thoughts about the person per se, however using your conscious energy to desire a poor result for your opponent.
Very natural and very logical, however, as my mentor explained, the universe doesn’t understand the game and only understands the vibe.
If you’re in a competition against the other three players, you might be rooting that all three of your opponents missed their upcoming putts. When it comes time for you to putt, do you really think the universe is going to be ready to flip the switch for you when all that negative energy has been flowing 75% of the time relative to the other three players in your group?
Nope, short game karma coming.
Your putt will be impacted just as much through that negative energy and your results will suffer equally through channeling your energy in the wrong direction as the universe will just react to the flow of the vibe and you will watch your lip out and wonder, “what happened?”.
A better approach in life is to look for opportunities to encourage others and to cheer for others no matter how small the circumstance.
One tiny example from yesterday was when I realized I forgot fresh garlic for my pasta sauce, so I stopped at a little Market called Morton’s to pick up a clove of garlic. I grabbed a few other small nibbles and headed to the register where a young man kindly checked me out and I would estimate him to be about 18 years old. He didn’t hold a lot of eye contact and he wasn’t much for small talk however he was quite pleasant, and then the situation got a little tense for him it looked like, all from the fact that I served up a $50 bill, which is an unusual denomination when making change.
Let’s face it, however, using cash at all unusual these days so that might’ve been part of the problem as well.
He needed to ask for help because he miscalculated the change and needed to reopen the drawer, and it only took a second and made no difference to me at all. However, as I was leaving, he offered up an apology and said he was sorry about that misstep and delay. I told him NOT to apologize when he was doing his best, being super polite and kind and doing absolutely nothing wrong.
I told him he should be proud of himself for being out here working and getting this great life experience!! You are polite and honest so you don’t have to apologize for simply doing your job and making a mistake here and there.
I encouraged him to instead try “thanking customers for their patience instead of apologizing”, as that is the more uplifting energy and more appropriate in the context of transactions and simply doing business.
He said to me “ thanks, your encouragement is cool.”
Not that I’m cool necessarily, but that encouragement was cool. He was cleared to point out the difference ha.
Just like when everybody at the gym stops to cheer for this kid going for his personal best and it erupts like they won the lottery when he straightens his back and gets that weight up to where it needs to be to make his record official.
Who will we have the opportunity to cheer for today at work, or in the community, or in our family?
Yes, encouraging others can be good for your health:
· Improved mood: Helping others can boost your mood and make you more optimistic.
· Increased self-esteem: Kindness can increase self-esteem, empathy, and compassion.
· Reduced stress: Helping others can reduce stress and anxiety.
· Lower blood pressure: Kindness can decrease blood pressure and cortisol, a hormone that’s linked to stress.
· Better immune system: Generosity can boost your immune system.
· Positive outlook: Helping others can change your own outlook and attitude.
· Kindness can inspire others: Your kindness can inspire others to be kind, too.
Charitable deeds can be part of your everyday life and don’t need to take much time or cost money.
Opportunities are endless, and even when no one is around the opportunity to encourage ourselves and be our own hype squad is always available and always productive practice.
Leverage science to take advantage of the opportunity to make your mind what you want it to be. Ask us at The Grateful4 Org how to get started as we have the tools and the teachers available when the student is ready. www.grateful4.org
