Morning Meditation from The GratiDude
Everyone wants to be kind to other people as far as the truth in their heart goes.
Most people have trouble expressing kindness and compassion to others, including even their closest friends and family.
From a very high level, the challenges that we all face stem from not processing or understanding the STORIES that we have told ourselves about our life experience.
My mentor Doctor LJ Rose says regularly that “life isn’t what happens to you but instead life is the STORY you tell yourself.”
Think about that for a moment….or all day.
Thought awareness in the ability to understand how you can get into the present moment of now always begins with your breath. It is impossible to recognize a small window of opportunity to express kindness in an appropriate and socially acceptable fashion if you are thinking about your own personal challenges and things that may be taking place in the future.
Your energy and focus or simply not in the right place at that time. What you miss is your own life experience which is extremely unfortunate and can never be relived.
When we come back to our own lives by connecting to breath, we can be present to help others with simply encouragement and kindness.
And WE feel better too!!
According to Cedar’s-Sanai:
“We all seek a path to happiness,” says Dr. Waguih William IsHak, a professor of psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai. “Practicing kindness toward others is one we know works.”
Kindness is chemical.
Most research on the science behind why kindness makes us feel better has centered around oxytocin.
Sometimes called “the love hormone,” oxytocin plays a role in forming social bonds and trusting other people. It’s the hormone mothers produce when they breastfeed, cementing their bond with their babies.
Oxytocin is also released when we’re physically intimate. It’s tied to making us more trusting, more generous, and friendlier, while also lowering our blood pressure.
Acts of kindness can also give our love hormone levels a boost, research suggests.
Dr. IsHak says studies have also linked random acts of kindness to releasing dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain that can give us a feeling of euphoria. This feel-good brain chemical is credited with causing what’s known as a “helper’s high.”
In addition to boosting oxytocin and dopamine, being kind can also increase serotonin, a neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood.
In this video here you have two people that have seen or encountered each other in the past, given the fact that one lives in the neighborhood and the other works in the neighborhood every single day.
The kindness of the Mail Cheer-Lady should not be underestimated or overlooked, and there are many layers to what she’s doing here.
Firstly, she has a very sensitive job so taking any extra time for the sake of something that does not work related especially just for giving love and kindness is pretty extraordinary.
Secondly, she offers a challenge to give the young man an opportunity both to feel good about himself, and to demonstrate his talents and the fruits of his labor and hard work.
She cheers him on as he’s attempting a dunk, and her enthusiasm is palpable, and she asked for a formal introduction to finish it all off.
It’s hard for me to think that everyone reading this can’t find a minute or two today to express some kindness and support for a stranger.
Offer a smile and love to YOUR neighbors! We have the example of this Mail Cheer-Lady with five hundred pounds of letters busting your butt to cover 1000 houses and still taking the time to pick up some pom-poms and cheer on the young hoopster.
It cost us nothing to share. Love gives you more love to share in the future. Come off of the “Love Wallet” by opening your heart and spending freely.
