Morning Meditation from The GratiDude

I made the decision in May 2019 that it would end with me.

Until you’ve experienced addiction and the inherent madness that accompanies it, it’s hard to describe.

One way you can explain it is that it’s like living with two minds or two people in one body; the rational one that knows what is good for you and the self-destructive one that is just hell-bent on punishing you and making you feel like you’re never enough.

For me, I realized in the last five years or so of my drinking, 2014-2019, that what I had done was like walking voluntarily into quicksand (that was clearly marked as dangerous) and a place that one should not walk.

I charged into that quicksand when I started drinking as a teenager at the age of fifteen.

If my babysitter, Pam, could’ve seen me know as a teenager she would’ve cried her eyes out. I guarantee it.  She loved me and she was super sweet, and she was our babysitter in early Elementary School, 5,6, 7 years old I believe.

One of the clearest memories I have of that time is her walking into the kitchen when I was six or seven, and I was imitating my dad when he would stop home during the day in between whatever meetings and appearances or whatever he had going on.

He’d come in through the back door as my parents always did into the kitchen, and he would walk over to the cupboard by the refrigerator and open it up and grab a big jug of red wine that would always be sitting there with a cork in it, open it up and toss back a big gulp.

Alcohol in the middle of the day straight from the bottle in front of your son.

Thanks, a fucking-lot Arthur E. Carpenter! Wow Dad, that was great, let me try it!!

So, I did.

And the look of terror, sadness, alarm, and everything else in Pam’s eyes when she walked into the kitchen and saw a little Kevin standing on a stool just so I could reach up to grab the jug of red wine and take a big sip.

Pam caught me in mid-gulp!

Amazingly I can remember what she asked me:

How many times have you done this?

Have you ever done this before?

Why are you doing this?

And I lied. Good practice!

It was great practice for becoming an addict later in my 30s and 40s.

I inherited both the energy and the behavior model around this whole addiction situation and alcohol, and I just walked right into it right into that quicksand as a teenager.

There are numerous ways that hard science acknowledges how parents can pass on energy-related traits to their offspring, including:

·         Mitochondria

Mitochondria are the cell’s energy-producing factories, and they are passed down from the mother. The mitochondria contain a genome that connects a person to their mother, grandmother, and so on.

·         Epigenetic inheritance

Epigenetic inheritance is the passing down of experiences from parents to their offspring through epigenetic marks. These marks can change in response to environmental signals, allowing organisms to adapt their gene expression without changing their DNA.

·         Maternal effects

Maternal effects, also known as parental effects, refer to the influence of a parent’s provisioning, condition, or care on their offspring.

·         Temperament

Some aspects of temperament, such as activity level, adaptability, and emotional responsiveness, may have a genetic basis. Scientists estimate that genetics determine 20 to 60 percent of temperament.

Spiritual inheritance can be explained in a number of ways, including:

·         Priceless gift

Spiritual inheritance is a gift that can be passed on to children and grandchildren over a lifetime. It’s imparted through godly words and actions.

·         Spiritual DNA

There’s a growing belief that people have a spiritual DNA that shapes their connection to the divine.

·         Accessing inheritance

Reading, meditating, believing, and developing faith in something bigger than you, outside of your Ego.

·         Spiritual growth

Spiritual growth is a process of awakening to one’s inner self and connecting with something greater than oneself.  Finding your inner GratiDude or GratiChica, ha ha!

As my own kids were coming into their own teen years, they were both at the cusp wanted just turned eleven and the other nine, and I realized I had no more time.

I needed to curb and change my behavior immediately so that my kids didn’t model more of my destructive behavior than they were already going to and demonstrate to them the ability to make change and to do hard things.

They’re starting to understand what I did and my sixteen year old Lucas just mentioned to me the other day that they realize now that there aren’t many people that drank for 30 years and quit cold turkey on their own to never drink again.

They asked me if I used a particular program or twelve or something like that and I explained I did The Grateful 4 program of extended yoga and meditation, self-talk and self-affirmations heavy physical exercise and golf.

The GratiRehab!

We are taught very young about genetics relative to physical traits and things like hair, color and eye color and skin color and all these other appearance inheritances that we can see with our physical senses or touch, etc.

Energy inheritances are very real because we are all simply comprised of energy is all the energetic inheritance is that we also bring with us and arrive when we come into the human body.

Everything we inherit is a form of energy folks. Facts.

Because energies are invisible from the outside they are not talked about or mentioned and until recently very little understood.

Many indigenous cultures, believe that are energetic, inheritances, and memories and influences go back seven generations, which is where the seven-generation term comes from that you may have heard.

Furthermore, all the people whether they were teachers or neighbors or friends of The Family etc., that you spent a lot of time around as a young person before the age of around 11 or 12 left deep imprints in your energy and your frequency whether you realize it or not.

That’s not something to be alarmed of, it’s just something to recognize because our jobs are to grow our awareness so that we can pick and choose which thoughts and beliefs service us and which ones we need to no longer support with our energy.  Those unhealthy or nonproductive thoughts are like dark clouds that we simply allow to float away into the horizon and never be seen again.

This video explains that we must do our own shadow work to understand how we are feeling even if we don’t know from where these energies and thoughts and things have come from.

We can figure that out later if we choose to, but for now, let’s just sort through the thoughts that we’re having and decide which ones are productive and healthy and which ones we no longer need.

We can pick and choose our thoughts because those are the building blocks for our mood in the current moment of now.

Our energy follows our thoughts, and our moods are not circumstantial once we realize this.

The ability to unwind past traumas that we either experienced in this lifetime or energies and patterns that we inherited or acquired from friends and family, can only happen when we get comfortable in stillness, and we return to our breath.

This is where our life is happening right here now, and we must breathe deeply, honor the exhale, and appreciate all the texture that’s within our breaths.

Our parents and ancestors like all people were simply doing the best they could with the information they had, and the truth is that we have a lot more information at our disposal and we have the ability to rectify a lot of historical energies that no longer serve our families going forward.

We can clean up our tree from an energy standpoint by going through our own work, personal growth, leadership, and our willingness to share our experiences with others no matter how vulnerable that makes us feel.

This is what we are doing every single day here at the Grateful4 organization and an open collective that welcomes everyone everywhere at any time to participate in any way they would like to www.grateful4.org .

Is that clear enough?

Go have fun!!! Let’s enjoy this weekend and an extra day of chill to polish up your Labor Day attitude of gratitude.
