I was talking with my heart doctor yesterday, not a real doctor but more of a spiritual advisor, about the conundrum that many people feel in a modern society around the tug-of-war between your personal spiritual path and economic realities.
What was particularly interesting about my journey was the fact that coming out of University of California my intentions were not to pursue a liquidity event or the next big deal as much as it was about creating a life that lined up with my passions and interest.
That is why I studied Latin American studies with an emphasis on economics.
I love both subjects and the way that studying Latin American countries and cultures allow you to better understand the entire world economically, socially religiously, and all of the different key social construct that us humans a.k.a. hairless monkeys like to employ and utilize in our social structures.
I love understanding the reality behind the global economy, the history of the technologies, the belief systems and cultures that clashed and were encountered in the process of global expansion and the mix of all of the cosmic races together as Pangaea continues to get reconnected day by day through technology, travel communication, and awareness.
When I shifted into the golf industry in 1996 and 1997 I went all in full on hard-core BP of sales rainmaking traveling hitting numbers mentality. I was always the guy that didn’t show away from taking the last shot at the end of a, I had no problem being up with two outs in the bottom of the last inning and the team desperately needing a hit for the game to keep going, or to handle a difficult situation in a social setting by taking charge in a way that diffused or calm things down.
I have no problem, taking the ball and running, so the brilliant entrepreneur David Chessler had found a perfect point guard to drive a new technology and innovation in a closed echo environment like the golf industry.
Dave would teach me about the Golf industry and leverage his relationships and I would sponge up knowledge and teachings from willing mentors like Ron Zabel(R.I.P.), and Steve Goodwin on Technology Sales, Strategic Selling, Forecasting, Team Building, etc……
However, I felt like I needed to leave my California life behind and to let go of some of the connections I had to my higher self around my true calling, my spiritual awakening and development, and cram that down in exchange for pursuing building something incredible with my best friends.
That’s the thing now that I understand five years removed from my alcohol addiction is that it was never about the business, or innovation, or even about the golf industry, which I have come to love so much that I’m gonna be a part of it for the rest of my life.
It was never about any of that.
I know that because when I got to a liquidity event, and the owners of ClubCar sent little old me a bunch of cash, unbeknownst to them, I did not feel what I thought I would feel.
There was no deep sense of satisfaction and I realize now is because the whole run with my brothers and sisters was really about my brothers and sisters the entire time.
I didn’t need to put myself through all that shit travel 2,000,000 miles and make my liver look like a dalmatian dog in the process.
I could’ve just sat by the river with Siddhartha and wait for the answers to flow to me like they do today.
That is why it is a true journey with no destination, except self growth and the pursuit of your personal greatness.
So, where do you start?
It starts with one deep breath, just like Lao Tzu explained…”the journey of 1000 miles begins under one’s foot with one step”, so does your journey of self-discovery and improvement.
Come Kaizan with us!!! Play Better, Be Better.
Here, NOW!:

When you take the pressure off, realizing that there is no finish line, you can never stop getting better, and our minds can continue to grow and learn and change with everything we experience, you can feel like a Kid again!
It feels truly remarkable and incredibly invigorating because we are probably only experts in a few subjects and there are endless subjects to learn about and experience.
When you get dialed in and connected to your higher self and realize what really matters to you, you can narrow down the things that are your daily focus and the areas where you want to get just a tiny bit better at each day in the spirit of Kaizan or 1% a day….
I have taken this approach over the last few years, especially and it’s amazing how how everything I care about that I consciously focus on, including in my process, continues to grow, improve, or expand.
It is why I write every single morning, it’s why I meditate every single day, why I have a pre-sleep routine as well and it’s why I share everything that I can that I find that could be helpful with anyone I can share it with.
For most folks, they have to come to the realization that they are not their thoughts and that they are something bigger than that and connected to something bigger.
You interrupt the monkey mind or anxiety or regret thinking by coming back to the moment of now and the only way to do this is by consciously focusing on your breathing.
Understanding how the body reacts to different types of breath, even as fundamentally as nose breathingvs. mouth breathing, understanding the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous systems, and taking ownership over your thought patterns and your emotional reactions to those thoughts.
This is Present Moment Awareness.
It is waiting for you.
The Calm.
The Clarity.
It is priceless.
I can help you get there and all you have to do is just take a little tiny step each day with us together and when you look back in a year, you’ve taken 365 steps and come so far that you can’t even believe what a bad ass you are.
To hit a GREAT golf shot, you MUST be in the Moment of NOW.
To have a GREAT conversation with your Boss, you MUST be in the MOMENT of NOW.
To be loving and connected to the People in your life that matter, you MUST be in the MOMENT of NOW.
Let’s first narrow down your focus to the things that really matter to you by using your Gratitude practice.
After a few weeks of the Daily G.I.F.T. your REAL priorities become clear.
