I value our friendship more than I value that hand full of dimes. You can’t scan what I hold in my heart at the self-checkout.
The concept of value is so wide and deep. It’s hard to even know where to begin.
There’s the concept of values in terms of ways to behave that you are correct or ideal.
There’s value from a consumer perspective when you’re shopping or buying something and you’re able to acquire an object or a service at a fair or reasonable price in relation to the experience or the solution that it will provide. That is a very common form of value or definition of value.
But what about bitcoin?
Or a painting that is appraised at millions of dollars or valued at that amount?
Even something like jewels or diamond, and those diamonds could be cubic zirconia….if you didn’t know any better or were not an expert in the field, how would you really know the difference between a fake diamond and a real one?
And why would it matter to anyone?
When you talk about value, you have to talk about relative value, intrinsic value, and other supplementary adjectives so that you can more clearly define the value that you’re talking about.

For me, how do I place a value on being able to grab my Santa Cruz longboard skateboard sitting by my front door, put my headphones on and kick a few blocks down the street with Peter Tosh in my ear, surfing on earth to the beach to join my other neighbors every night at sunset in the summertime around 8 PM.
Priceless, like the MasterCard ads used to say.
What’s the value of seeing those dogs and new ones as they play on the beach…. and listening to an old man tell a story about Dicky Betts playing bass…. while a woman pulls up in a yellow old Club Car DS car and I smell someone’s black and mild cigar mixed with somebody else’s weed while someone is playing Jimmy Buffett on the guitar at the other end of the beach.
What’s the value of that moment and experience?
For me, it’s everything however for you or someone else it might be nothing.

Have you ever been into a Grove of redwoods, sequoias?
Or had your whole family try to put your arms together, holding your hands and try to wrap your arms around a tree and not not even coming close?
What’s the value of that, being reminded by a 1000 year old tree how tiny you are?
How do you value the memory of being in the ocean body surfing in Mexico and looking over to your left and seeing a 4 foot sea turtle body surfing with you?
Is that worthless?
Or does that memory hold value?
I’m just posing some questions to help you stir the pot a little bit of your mind so you’re not complacent and just passively receiving information or thoughts or ways of being that aren’t truly aligned with your higher self or what you would like the best version of yourself to look like(C’mon Neo, what are YOU really into, asked Morpheus).
I’m not being Judge Judy here because I’m using my own experience of being an idiot and being concerned with status as a point of reference. If you knew me 20 years ago I had on the right watch, shoes, all that bullshit, and put time and money into it. Real watch, fake watch, it didn’t matter in my younger years, all that poser bullshit to increase, in my own ego, my perceived value in society.
All of that energy that I used, whether it was procuring a fake watch or wearing a certain type of dress shoe to impress someone, there wasn’t much value in that behavior for me long-term as that use of my energy and time was not very helpful to myself or others.
However, the memories I have of the beach, or my time in the redwoods, holds tremendous value, value that is intrinsic and that gives meaning to my life.
That is about the most valuable thing I could ever think of.
It is A-OK that your perceptions and realities change in your life through growth and learning that of course the things you value were going to change as well.
The only way to really understand what holds meaning and value to you is by getting in touch with your self through the moment of now.
When you connect to your breath and give yourself the opportunity to participate in the living family in real-time, with all the other living things that we are connected to, the answers will flow freely clearly.
Instead of struggling to find an answer, simply struggle to find your breath and to become grounded. The answers will then arrive through your thoughts when you are connected to your breath.
It is just like golf a swing…. you focus on the process and the fundamentals of things like your grip, posture, alignment and you should not focused on the results of the ball sitting in the middle of the fairway 250 yards away…. God willing ha ha.
Your process is everything and it will let you know what you really value and not what you were being told to value by others.
And one thing I know you do value is gratitude or you wouldn’t be reading this.
We are all better off because you are one of the people that is pursuing their Attitude of Gratitude.
