Who’s life are you in and for what purpose? Deliver the goods Peeps, as you are being utilized whether you realize it or not.
It’s a funny thing when you lay yourself out there, bare, and ask for help.
For me, it feels like my socialization growing up and especially the passive instructions from my Father, would all lead me to bottle everything up about my feelings, etc. and certainly not ask for any help.
Help? That would be weak.
What I found out over time and through my own personal experience however, is that asking for help is the only way to get where you want to go as quickly as possible.
It is also what makes the world go both giving and receiving help because we all need it at different times of our life.
Like the great Bob Marley sang, ”once a man and twice a child and everything is just for a while”.
You certainly needed help before when you were a baby, and you’re definitely gonna need help again, so suck it up buttercup and lean on your friends and family and you’d be surprised at who shows up when you most need it.
For me, seeing folks like Julius Rhodes jump on my ZOOM calls about my Coaching, getting notes from my friends at the CMAA like Joe and Ed, and super busy guys like Jeff Levine and Rich Cessna offering sincere, heartfelt encouragement.
These Friends and I share real connections, connections on the levels of values, integrity, and how we wish to see the world.
We are not Odd Couples.
I can tell you this, spoiler alert, it’s not always the people you expect to show up that show up.
And that’s God’s way of giving you direction and letting you know who you should be relying on going forward. The universe and the source of all light love energy in life uses other human beings to guide us. Our Friends and Acquaintances shape us and move us in the direction of embracing our calling and our faith.
There’s a funny story about a big storm coming in and a stubborn old couple by the river that didn’t want to evacuate in the days proceeding the storm and decided they were going to stay put.
The river starts to rise are getting ready to start knocking on the door asking them to please jump in their vehicle or come with them to a relatives house where it’s dry and safe and they steadfastly refuse saying over and over again that “we have faith in God and God will save us and protect us”.
Meanwhile, these are other members of their church and flock that are coming to them, begging and pleading for them to simply walk away from their home while they can, and they could always come back in a day or two after the waters have subsided.
The water rises all the way up into the yard and now the sheriffs driving around looking for anybody that may have missed the evacuation notice and ends up, knocking on their door, telling them they need to leave.
They tell the sheriff that they are not going to leave because they have faith in God and God will protect them.
I bet you know where this is going… Very soon they’re on the roof of their house having slowly ascended to avoid the water that it seeped into the house and now there’s a helicopter dropping a ladder telling them to jump on the ladder so they can get away to safety and not drown on top of their house.
They shouted over the rushing water and the steady whirling sound of the helicopters rotary blades that “God will save them they can leave they don’t need a helicopter”
.
Well, you guessed it, they drowned.
And when they got to heaven, they started to give Peter an earful asking why such faithful people were left to drown on top of their house like that without any help from God?
St. Peter replied:
You may be the stupidest people we’ve ever let him to heaven, but because of your great act and kindness during your life and your faith, we’re going to let you in. But first, I have to ask you a question:
“Who do you think sent the neighbors, The boat that came into the back yard, the sheriff that knocked on the door, and the helicopter you knuckleheads?”
That was the “God” you were waiting for….now get in here (smh)!
Ha ha ha.
I look around the golf industry at the people that I have met over the last nearly 30 years and at first blush it would look like we are odd couples perhaps when you see us at the Pga show hugging or talking and catching up.
A guy like Rich Cessna, former Air Force, and also an avid military historian, might seem like an odd buddy for me the gratitude in a bucket hat, and some Buddhist beads around his neck.

My relationships and friendships are all about what is below the surface, that’s what binds us together.
A shared belief in focusing on the things that we have and the value of appreciation and gratitude, as well as the importance of kindness, hard work and integrity in our lives.
That’s why Rich Cessna is my Bro.
Period.
These are the core values I share with Rich and these are why we were friends from the very beginning when I met him 23 years ago and we will always be friends.
I know Rich is in my life for a reason just like everyone that is mankind and good to me over the many years and I cherish and value these individuals as not just friends but messengers from God to help direct me to follow my path and to be the very best version of myself.
I ask you to consider who is in your life to help you but whose life are you in and what is your divine purpose?
How might you be of service in helping your coworkers, family, friends, or acquaintances feel better, have more joy in their life, be more productive or feel more loved today?
You are being used for the benefit of others, so what might you do with your own Free Will that you have been gifted from creation to act for the betterment of others?
Please listen to those instructions and follow through as we all have work to do in upliftment and sharing the gifts that we receive every day when we are lucky enough to wake up and be alive.
Helping others by being present in the moment of now and getting comfortable staying connected to your breath so you can think clearly.
I can help you with this process as it is an ongoing maintenance of using breath in mindfulness to embrace the calm and reject the chaos.
I’m here for it.
Think twice before you label someone as being part of an odd couple and realize that we don’t always understand why people are in our lives immediately and sometimes we may not understand at all.
And that’s OK.
Faith and patience teaches us to wait for the reveal because we know life is a beautiful mystery, so we all share an Attitude of Gratitude.
