I thought I was seeing things early yesterday morning as the sun was coming up. As I glanced over to my left and looked at a cactus that I had scooped off of the ground in my yard and thrown into a pot, it appeared a bright yellow flower was blooming out of the top of the raggedy old cactus ear.

This could not be, cactuses are known for their flowers are they?

Especially not a cactus that was a castaway, literally on the ground and headed towards what look like certain decomposition.

Yet much to my surprise, as the photo proves, a big bright yellow flower appeared as soon as the sun came up and must’ve popped up out of this prickly pear looking plant overnight.

Come to think of it, the birds chirping and running around the yard, in the exact spot where the cactus used to be, or just like that yellow flower in some ways.  

The birds chirping are saying thank you for your awareness of me as well as for the food that you’ve sprinkled on the yard so lovingly.

The cactus is thanking me for my awareness and rewarding me with a bright bloom simply acknowledging the cactus is being part of the living family and in need of some attention, love and care.

A tiny bit of dirt, a little bit of water, some music and some kind words and…voila! Like a rabbit out of a hat, a bright yellow flower out of a cactus.

And so it goes when you sew seeds of love and agape, you never know when the thank you will happen and in what form or shape it may take.

Another example…..I just received a really nice thank you note in the mail from a friend I hosted for Golf some weeks back, and it was just like a written manifestation of the flower out of the cactus.

Unexpected.

Beautiful.

Uplifting.

Colorful.

These types of surprises are the “Yin” to the “Yang” of other surprises that may be more challenging or more threatening to our Ego.  

For me personally, the regular reveal of the utter lack of control I truly have is sometimes the challenges that consternate me the most. If I am not careful, the out of control feeling brings up some childhood trauma and it can that throw my vibe off if I am not staying connected to breath. I look out for those feelings creeping up and realize that I need to breathe in deep in order to counterbalance, breath in and enjoy the cool and beautiful surprises like the flower out of the cactus.

Or the birds chirping while I read my super nice handwritten note that I just got.

It all evens out and it’s all part of the beautiful mystery that is life.

Gratitude allows you to realize that everything is OK and all of it, all of your sensory experiences and thoughts, are informative and teaches you and informs you about your own personal life experience.

We all continue to understand and feel just what it means to be a part of the living Family.

I am so very happy that I choose gratitude and that my awareness caught the yellow flower out of the corner of my eye. I didn’t miss that reward, that little kiss on the forehead from God, as I know definitively that the yellow bloom was created just for me.

For every time I get a bill in the mail that I didn’t expect, or someone doesn’t see me on the road and drives right in front of me, there is a counterbalance surprise waiting of something beautiful, loving and kind to uplift me. I will continue to get the signs, blessings and rewards I need in order to make sure that I keep moving forward and smelling the flowers with an Attitude of Gratitude.
