Morning Platitude from The GratiDude

I got a call from a friend in the golf industry, who is moving his way up the ladder within the PGA of America and is still in his 20s. If you would’ve told him five years ago, what he would be doing, where he would be working, he would have told you back then that it sounds like a dream job, and he is super excited and grateful to be in this position.

However, something has changed.

Something about his perspective on what he wants to do and what brings him joy has shifted either through his life experience over the last handful of years, or he is simply getting a little bit of clarity from his higher-self relative to what his true passions and interest may be at this time.

That’s an important thing to recognize is that we can have more than one thing in our lifetime that we are passionate about and that we want to pour our heart and soul into.

I was at the South Carolina aquarium yesterday in Charleston with my kid Lucas and the amount of information and science they know about marine biology is staggering. I knew that they had an internship a year or two ago with Mote Marine lab in Sarasota, helping out with the summer camps and tours, but I had no idea how much information and knowledge they absorbed until I heard them interacting and talking with the museum staff at the various exhibits.

It was impressive.

And what was even cooler? Was that at some point as we were getting ready to leav Lucas made mention that they wanted to pursue a career in the kitchen as a chef and travel the world through culinary arts. However, they would probably fall back on marine biology and become a scientist for their “retirement plan “. Oh my gosh, how beautiful!

The greatest thing was to hear my own kid say “I want to do everything I want to do it all”.

That for me as a parent told me that we are right on track in terms of building, self-confidence belief, self-love, and the internal narrative that my kid is communicating inside their life experience.

It’s working.

Now my friend that called me in the golf industry admitted after a brief conversation that the first thing he does every morning is grab his phone and look at it before he goes to the bathroom and walk his dog. I explained to him that once we get going on a consistent morning routine however, short, everything will change within 30 days and he will start to reclaim his mindset and understand a bit more about his own ability to influence his direction and how to get to the point where he’s comfortable in stillness to listen to the answers and direction that are bubbling up from inside of him.

I was very humbled and happy that he took the time to call me and asked me for some assistance because that tells me that my messages is being received by some and that’s all I could ever hope for.

When you are a valuable contributor inside an organization or an enterprise, when you feel the need to shift responsibility or roles, a healthy organization will embrace that as part of the evolution of you being a participant in the company and a stakeholder.

The cost of you working and doing something that you’re not enjoying would be far more of a negative impact to the company than it would be to merely reassign you to a different role responsibility or perhaps with a different leader that matches how you’re feeling and where you want to go currently in your life.

Yes, engaging in activities you love and find fulfilling can significantly improve your emotional state by reducing stress, boosting mood, and promoting overall well-being.

Here’s why:

Stress Reduction:

Doing what you love allows you to escape daily stressors and engage in activities that bring joy and relaxation.

Increased Happiness and Satisfaction:

Passionate activities can lead to a greater sense of happiness, satisfaction, and purpose in life.

Improved Mood:

Engaging in enjoyable activities releases endorphins, which are known to improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression.

Increased Motivation and Productivity:

When you’re passionate about something, you’re more likely to be motivated and productive, leading to a sense of accomplishment and positive self-esteem.

Enhanced Creativity and Innovation:

Hobbies and interests can spark creativity and innovation, allowing you to explore new ideas and express yourself.

Social Connection and Support:

Many hobbies and activities involve social interaction, which can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation and provide a sense of belonging and support.

Improved Physical and Mental Health:

Engaging in enjoyable activities can lead to lower blood pressure, less stress, and higher levels of both psychological and physical function.

It is critical that you not be concerned about other people’s thoughts and reactions to what you want to do and how you are feeling even if it is a dramatic change from what you have been doing and even if it may come as a complete surprise or even a shock to some.

The grand total of people that you need to let know about your next move is zero.

This number: 0
