Morning Platitude from The GratiDude
I never believed all the things that people would say about clothing and fashion when I was a kid. I can remember my mom saying to another mom about some shoes that she was wearing that were very 1960s hippie. “don’t throw those out you never know what might come back into fashion” and they started laughing. As if hippie fashion would ever become something cool, or that there would even be a term like “hippie chic.”
I believe it was right around the early 90s that hippie chic did come into fashion and people got curious about the clothing and the culture from that time. And they even launched the resurrected Woodstock concert of all things. So yes, lo and behold those hippie shoes of the mom that my mom was joking with did come back into style and let’s hope she hung onto those and had the chance to dust them off and break them back out. Walking around downtown Ann Arbor, looking fashionable with her 30-year-old shoes.
Unlike clothing or music or other things that may come in and out of fashion, kindness and compassion have been in style since the beginning of time. We are hardwired originally first and foremost for abundance and for love, and then, once we are born, we are thrown into the mix of energy circumstances, social programming, and our most immediate impact, our parental and familial upbringing.
We could have never evolved and survived without kindness folks.
One exercise you can do about the impression that kindness has made in your life and how it’s always held value, is to recapitulate different periods of your life and look for kind mileage markers. Perhaps places you’ve lived, your relationships you were in, look closely and you’ll find beautiful, impactful people that went out of their way, either for a particular moment or for an extended period, offering you kindness and compassion.
Those are the people that show up on your life radar years and decades later, which should inform you from a first-hand perspective just how long-lasting and impactful acts of kindness can be.
· Yes, according to evolutionary biologists, kindness played a significant role in human evolution, as it facilitated cooperation, strengthened social bonds, and helped ensure the survival and care of vulnerable members of a group, making it a crucial factor in our species’ development.
· Key points about kindness in human evolution:
· Cooperative survival:
· Early humans needed to cooperate in hunting, child-rearing, and protection against threats, and kindness facilitated this cooperation by promoting trust and mutual support within a group.
Caregiving behavior:
· The vulnerability of human infants required significant caregiving, which led to the evolution of compassion and nurturing behavior towards others, including non-kin.
Social bonding:
· Acts of kindness release hormones like oxytocin, which strengthen social bonds and promote feelings of connection within a community.
Reproductive advantage:
· Individuals perceived as kind and cooperative may have been more likely to attract mates and successfully raise offspring, passing on these traits to future generations.
I meditate on the acts of kindness that are bestowed upon me and recognize them for what they are as pure unfiltered abundance. I’ll give you one example from yesterday.
My brilliant bro “Ricky Ricardo” Rich Katz that I have known since about the time that Al Gore invented the Internet going back to the 90s. Rich is one of those very genuine, kind people that also happens to be an incredible wordsmith and savvy businessman.
This is a rare combination.
Rich and I have been a part of different work projects and things over the years for different companies and Rich offered up his services pro bono at no cost to the Grateful 4 Organization ( www.grateful4.org ) to help us announce our partnership with TypeCoach In the Golf, Resort, and Club Industry.
https://www.typecoach.com/
This is a super exciting time for me is it’s the culmination of a few years of preparation and study, as well as the trial runs of coaching programs done in the summer of ‘24 in partnership with Rob Toomey and the G4 Collective of Super Sherpas that lead each week with a different section of information and learning around personal growth, health, and wellness.
For Rich to take the time and energy and focus to do this work which she normally charges thousands and thousands of dollars for and rightfully is like having a sack of money left on your front door when you walk outside in the morning.
It’s that valuable and that incredible of an act and it’s not lost on me.
I recognize that I would never receive this type of windfall of generosity in the form of public relations and marketing work if I didn’t abide by the laws of the universe and offer up everything to everyone I can whenever I can as part of my ethos. I am the recipient of generous acts like this from Rich because of the energy and the gratitude that I put out into the world and my efforts to help others. You can call it Karma, God, you can call it divine intervention, it doesn’t really matter to me.
My focus is planting the seeds for the trees, and occasionally one sprouts and offers me up some shade and comfort and that’s a metaphor for Rich offering up his services and help for our programmatic official launch here in the spring of 2025. You’ll see the press release in the next week or two as we tighten up some logistics and dates before fully announcing this exciting partnership to the golf and resort club industry.
To be clear this isn’t a quid-pro-quo arrangement with me and other Humans like Rich, but instead a part of the beautiful mystery of life where we know what the right thing is to do and we do it for the sake of doing it. Hard stop.
Furthermore, the joy and life satisfaction we could experience through the act of giving reinforces why we should keep doing it.
When Grateful for Golf(G4G) activates programmatic engagements in different parts of the country later this year, we will all have the opportunity to see what sharing the power of positive thinking, self-talk, and the neuroscience magic and instant feedback of gratitude can do in the communities that are most challenged today. I have bootstrapped this 501c3 so as Coaching and other businesses grow we will be able to engage Grant Writers to trigger fundraising and the activations Nationally.
Everyone will have the opportunity to use our daily G.I.F.T. Program, combined with basic financial literacy to uplift at risk communities, and to provide direct compensation in the form of individual grants to positive influences in the community like coaches, teachers clergy, volunteers, boys, and girls, club employees, etc.
We want to make sure we have a vehicle that’s organized and clear, and that we can replicate to continue the path of ensuring the gratitude covers the land just like water covers the sea.
It’s a basic form of thank you to the source of all light, love, energy, and life that patiently waited and came in many disguises and forms to me, until I was finally able to choose gratitude over death, and to embrace the life that was intended for me when I accepted the opportunity to enter into the human experience voluntarily.
And now it’s time to get to work like Captain Kirk.
Or as Spock might have said, “ The only logical conclusion is to live your life with an attitude of gratitude, Captain.”
