Morning Platitude from The GratiDude

When your livelihood and compensation come from a profession that keeps diligent score on your individual contributions and productivity, and that registers every win and loss, it can be a stressful way to live.

What I’m talking about in this instance is if you’ve ever done sales for your living, you know what I’m talking about. If you have ever been a sales leader with the sales team, then you know what it feels like to wake up and see a scoreboard above your bed first thing in the morning letting you know how you’re doing relative to the annual plan.

In other words, it takes a commitment to staying present and to having a healthy outlook on life when so much of your time is consumed in a scarcity type of reality chasing closure on business opportunities.

For this reason, going back about 10-15 years or so, I would tell the people that we’re selling our golf cart GPS technology to remember that “these are the good old days” to keep everyone present and grounded in their life.

The early folks on the team like HOP, Steve Bledsoe, Ray Greco, Jeff Cline, they are incredibly positive and brilliant men, and they embraced living and making the “good old days” in real time. That is why they set the world on fire and blew up our Company and the Visage technology.

We would come back to the conversation around things like the basics; the ability to wake up today and take nourishment and locomote under our own volition and can be working with a great group of people doing something we really enjoy in an industry that we’re happy to be working in. If you told yourself 10 years ago that you would have the opportunity to be doing this right now right here you would’ve been ecstatic so stop focusing on the challenges and embrace those as part of the effort that goes into enjoying these good old days.

Yes, your mindset strongly influences whether you experience a day as good or bad. Your thoughts and beliefs about a situation, and how you choose to interpret events, can significantly affect your emotional response and overall experience of the day.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:

Mindset as a Lens:

Your mindset acts like a lens through which you view the world and your experiences. A positive mindset can help you see the good in situations and find opportunities for growth, even in challenges, according to the Stanford Report.

Influence on Reactions:

A positive mindset can lead to more resilient reactions to setbacks and a greater ability to focus on solutions. A negative mindset can amplify negative emotions and lead to a more pessimistic outlook.

Impact on Decisions:

Your mindset can influence your decisions throughout the day. A positive mindset can lead to more proactive and optimistic choices, while a negative mindset can lead to avoidance or self-limiting behavior.

Changing Your Mindset:

You can consciously choose to shift your mindset. Techniques like mindfulness, gratitude practices, and positive self-talk can help you train your brain to view situations in a more positive light.

The Power of Choice:

You have the power to choose the mindset you want to cultivate for your day. By consciously focusing on positive thoughts and beliefs, you can influence your experience and make your day more enjoyable.

I use this myself currently as I’m building my coaching business and doing new in different things that take me out of my comfort zone to keep in mind that this was exactly where I wanted to be a few years ago when I realized I needed to make major life changes in order to pursue my own personal greatness and to get out of living what I felt like was a “B plus life”.

Nothing worthwhile is ever easy so treating the challenges and all the new things just like going to the gym and exercising, knowing that the results will come and trusting process, is a great way to look at tackling new projects and trying new things.

The reality is that the times that you look back on and think about as being some of the better times in your life, those were moments that you were present in the moment of now and experiencing life to its fullest because of that. It wasn’t so much that there was more beauty in front of you back then it was simply a matter of you having the ability to be more present, connected to your breath and appreciate that beauty more at that moment.

In other words, the good old days are waiting for you right here right now and it’s a matter of developing Present Moment Awareness, and using gratitude to train your mind is an incredible way to do it.

Gratitude and what matters to you and using that to come back to the present moment is like a tasty dog biscuit for your heart and mind every time you practice it.

It doesn’t polish your teeth like a milk bone, but it does polish your attitude and get you moving in the right direction towards an attitude of gratitude.
