Morning Platitude from The GratiDude
The top #1 regret of dying people are:
Not living true to oneself
People regret not living the life they wanted, but instead living the life others expected of them.
An incredible example of how wonderful gratitude is can be seen in the impacts of how different individual humans process shocking or disturbing news.
Does it activate something primal(a primal cue), or do you curl up into the fetal position and simply give up?
My coach Rob from TypeCoach has been sharing with me some ideas and concepts. He has around the significance of primal cues and how they take shape in modern society and an individual lives today.
No longer just the type of reaction of seeing a sabretooth tiger coming out of a cave and climbing up a tree or finding an appropriate hiding spot, but real-life stuff going down around your things that give you a glimpse or a window into the impermanence of your own life. Perhaps that activates something that pushes you to do new or distinct levels of activities than you had ever done before.
For many people, my age when you hit 50 years old, it’s a big existential trigger to do an evaluation of how you’re living your life and if you were going to be able to squeeze in everything you want to do before you expire. I’m not sure why 50 does that in our society but it really does, almost a fork in the road where you double down on choosing a life of meaning or double down on choosing a life of ego and self-satisfaction and just saying fuck it I’m going to enjoy myself all the way to the finish line and I don’t give a shit.
The cool thing about our society is that both choices are acceptable and OK and there is no right way to live your life if you are in touch with your higher self and doing what feels good in your neighborhood without hurting other people.
It took me about six months after I turned 50 and continued to do yoga multiple times each week, and the shavasana’s and the stillness and quiet were driving me to quit drinking.
The silence was deafening.
I kept hearing and trying to ignore all the messages and the urges to make a change, and the consistent voice of reason became overwhelming, and I had to put the bottle down.
After 30 days, my thinking it started to change significantly, and by week six or seven I could really feel a whole different set of neural pathways, taking hold, and that I was going to need to start playing offense in a new life and figure out where that was going to take me quite soon.
Easier said than done, as you build a life and a reality AROUND, one way of thinking and feeling, and when you change everything inside you and look around, you suddenly realize that the life that you had set up is no longer the life that you need or want in terms of where your focus is on a day-to-day basis.
Yes, thinking about mortality can motivate people to do great things by helping them live more purposefully and appreciate their time. It can also help people prioritize their values and goals and live a more authentic life.
Explanation
Prioritizing values
Thinking about death can help people identify what’s important to them and what they want to accomplish. This can lead to a more present-focused life that values relationships, generosity, and health.
Living authentically
Thinking about death can help people become more aware of their passions and desires, which can guide their actions and decisions.
Living in the moment
Thinking about death can help people live in the moment and commit to actions that serve their values.
Being grateful
Thinking about death can help people appreciate what they have and be grateful for the people in their lives.
Being honest
Thinking about death can help people be honest and share their truth.
It was clear about 4 years ago that I was done exchanging my time and talent for a handful of dimes(working for ClubCar, God bless but it was time to grow). Working a “job” sucks, with no satisfaction, meaningful participation, or opportunity for creativity which just starves my soul, and I can’t stand.
In full disclosure, 2025 is the year of dialing in exactly what my favorite thing is to do and what this flywheel is going to look like for my professional career going forward.
I’m realizing that I enjoy working and having some time every week in an entrepreneurial business and I love emerging tech technologies in the golf and resort industry like some of the stuff I’m doing today.
I don’t see why I wouldn’t continue to have consulting gigs in this space if the leadership and the equity behind the entity are aligned with an abundant mindset and operate from a position and a mindset of integrity and personal and organizational growth.
Primal cues are instincts that have been part of the human experience since the beginning of time. They are triggers and motivations that have evolved to help people survive. Primal cues can be used to help people learn and practice more naturally.
How do primal cues work?
Primal cues are signals that activate built-in motivational triggers.
They can be images, people, or ideas that create a sense of belonging to a group.
They can be short, direct signals that can trigger a strong, almost unconscious response.
They can be triggered by pain or possibility.
They can be used to create a sense of identity and to motivate people to pursue goals.
Examples of primal cues
Seeing someone else doing something worthwhile
Experiencing adversity, such as the loss of a parent
Watching a loved one perform
Feeling pain, which can lead to quick learning and habit changes
Where are primal cues used?
In sports, art, music, and other areas
In education, where teachers can use pain and possibility to motivate students
Q: Who is the BIGGEST and BEST Teacher?
A: God and The Universe
Why: The Universe and God will continue to deliver you PAIN until you learn the LESSON.
Get it?
Real shit.
I’m beginning to realize that I may just be a writer that’s going to become a speaker speaking about my writing and using that as the activation vehicle to engage individually and with organizations for my coaching.
Of all the things and the talents that I have right now at work, I believe my ability to do interviews around my writings is where I can really shine because of how comfortable I am with myself and the passion that I have for the subject matter and my ability to articulate my thoughts at an above average level.
Where are you Oprah?
Ha!
As a joke, I said a few years ago that when I blow up and the gratitude takes charge the message that we’re bringing is going to be so powerful and well received that Oprah is going to want to come out of retirement and host just one show so that she can interview me.
I’m coming Queen O, get the couch, dry, cleaned, and the studio audience assembled.
I also realize that I am at the root of everything a storyteller.
I wish to tell stories to entertain and to make people smile and to awaken something that connects them to something bigger than themselves so that they can join me on this abundant side of life where we can recognize and see the beauty in front of us every single day.
The more and more my ego gets in check and I get out of the way the more clear my message will become, and again my message is not from me, but from something bigger than me around universal truth in ways that we can apply them to our day-to-day life so that we can experience more joy and happiness during our short life here on earth.
Spoiler alert: we’re all going to die, which means that now is the time that we all should be full speed ahead.
That that’s our attitude of gratitude.
