Morning Platitude from The GratiDude
My dear friend of almost 20 years and mentor Bob Dugan just announced the publishing of his book “all I am”.
Press release below.
I know quite a bit about Bob’s life having had him on my podcast a few years back and having had real conversations with him regularly whenever we connect since we first met.
Bob is a lot like a lot of my close friends that I love very much in the golf industry, quite different for me in background however we share a love of the game of golf and compassion and love for our brothers and sisters here on earth.
That is more than enough to make us lifelong friends.

As I think about Bob’s accomplishment of finishing and publishing his book, I also realize that things aren’t always the way they seem, and that sometimes the biggest accomplishments and achievements we have often come out of the suffering and pain of this life experience.
However, it is that suffering that provides the contrast that we need much like we need the nighttime to help define daytime. The deep suffering that we must process is just the nature of being human and becoming attached to things, all of which are impermanent.
The message here is to really enjoy the things that matter the most to you and practicing gratitude helps you sharpen your focus as to the most important things in people in your life experience today.
This allows you to then measure and hold yourself accountable relative to your behavior and how you are living relative to the things that are most important to you.
When there’s a misalignment, or your behavior isn’t matching up with supporting and protecting the things that give your life the most meaning, that is the time that you are unwell, and you need to do the work in the shadows necessary to help understand the source of this unhealthy behavior.
If it’s friends, family, and community that matter most, then you need to take care of your health so that you can participate and be active with those groups to always contribute the best version of yourself.
All these versions of life, all the unique styles and moods and life situations they’re all you, you that is connected to something bigger than yourself that has never changed, and that exists outside of your physical form.
My soul inside of this meatsuit, in the words of Bob Dugan, is what makes me “All I Am”.
It’s a good conversation to have and that is to really boil down the essence of what makes you and what has been with you the entire time during your life.
As I’ve been doing more writing, I realize that this knowing drive and deep knowing and understanding of the interconnectedness of all people and the importance for me personally to share love with everyone as my contribution to the rock soup of humanity. I can remember, knowing this if I have known life that feeling or order from a higher power that I had clear and explicit orders.
And it’s only since I quit drinking 6 years ago and really had a deeper understanding of how short my life was that the urgency kicked in to get back to that hardwire program and to build a life of meaning around the agape aspect of me, that north star focus and pull that is most important and the critical slice of “me” that the drives the rest, or all of me.
The more stillness that I sit in and participate in the greater, the clarity is not only what I want to do, but all of the baby steps that I could take to continue to spread and share the message of gratitude and some simple neuroscientific hacks that greatly accelerate your personal happiness.
