Morning Platitude from The GratiDude

You have all the ingredients in your cupboard right now in your kitchen so get cooking.

What I mean by this is that when you have your health and your ability to move about under your own volition and to take nourishment that you have shelter and food and people that care about you all that’s left now is for you to become present and to focus on your appreciation of all that you have.

Stop looking outside or feeling like you need to go shopping for more stuff to cook with, you have everything you already need.

I feel today that this is the greatest my life has ever been and I know it’s just going to get greater because I am learning and growing, and I will apply all of the knowledge that I accumulate to simply get better to get more focused and to continue the never-ending pursuit of my personal greatness, all in an effort to live a life of meaning helping in assisting others.

I have everything I need and want, so my focus is on my health and slowing down my experience to be present and to really enjoy the fruits of my labor, which all occur in this generous present moment of now.

If you’ve ever been poor, perhaps when you were a college student or younger and had limited resources with which to prepare something to eat, it’s amazing how creative you can get and what incredible dishes you can whip up.

I’m not talking about just ketchup and hot water to make tomato soup. I’m talking about creative pizzas made from English muffins and sandwiches stuffed with leftovers that with the right seasoning and sauces tastes as delicious as any sandwich you could get from Katz’s deli in NYC.

Instead of staring at your phone at other people‘s Instagram posts of their beautiful family set the phone down and look under your own roof and celebrate your own family. Then walk outside and celebrate your neighborhood, walk some steps in your life, and take a warm bath in your own conscious existence by participating actively right now.

Your day-to-day life and all the simple things in it hold the key to your happiness and contentment.

When we slow down and become present and no longer anticipate things in the future or ruminate about the past, we can settle into this generous present moment of now and start to experience the magic that is happening every day in our own lives.

The Buddhist monks used to teach the new arrivals that “when I am sweeping the floor. I am sweeping the floor.”

Being present in all your activities and focusing on the task at hand allows you to never have time to introduce a label or to position yourself as some sort of victim in a narrative that only exists in your own mind.

Yes, seeking happiness internally through practices like mindfulness and self-reflection can significantly contribute to better health, as it helps manage stress, promotes positive thinking, and can lead to healthier lifestyle choices, ultimately improving both mental and physical well-being.

Key points about internal happiness and health:

Reduced stress:

Finding happiness from within can help you better cope with stressors, lowering your cortisol levels which are linked to various health issues.

Improved immune system:

Positive emotions, cultivated through internal happiness practices, can boost your immune system function.

Better sleep:

A calmer mind from internal happiness can lead to improved sleep quality.

Healthy lifestyle choices:

When you feel good from within, you’re more likely to engage in healthy behaviors like regular exercise and balanced eating.

Positive mindset:

Cultivating internal happiness can foster a more optimistic outlook, which can positively influence your overall health perception.

How to seek internal happiness:

Meditation:

Mindfulness practices can help you focus on the present moment and reduce negative thoughts.

Gratitude journaling:

Regularly writing down things you are grateful for can shift your perspective towards positivity.

Self-reflection:

Taking time to understand your emotions and values can lead to a more authentic sense of happiness.

Meaningful activities:

Engaging in activities that align with your personal values can bring deeper satisfaction.

I can recall listening to Alan Watts talk about the process of washing and drying dishes after dinner in his kitchen.

There is nowhere else to go.

He talks about there is no other place to be, and you are having this experience because you’re supposed to be having this experience so lean into it in the moment and be a part of your own life experience.

When we take our foot off the gas pedal and coast a bit, we can look around and appreciate all the showing up we have done and keep doing, and all the tiny steps that have let us right here to this moment.

It is a good exercise to recapitulate aspects of your life so that you can appreciate the struggle the effort, and how far you have come. Avoid the trap of telling yourself that if you had something or at some time in the future, when you receive XY and Z, then you could elevate your sense of contentment, joy, and happiness to a whole other level.

You simply can’t wait to get great.

When you celebrate the fact that the journey and the process is everything, and there is no destination or finish line, you can slow down the time in your life and stop wishing for things in the future because you know that the only moment that truly exist is right now.

Your breath is the gateway to this generous present moment of now and that’s why it’s the cornerstone of our teaching and coaching and must be the way that you start your day every morning to get activated.

Please let us know what questions you have or if you’re interested in learning more as our tent is of infinite size, and there is room for everyone because we all share an attitude of gratitude.
