Everything depends on your mindset when you really look at it. This is both empowering for some and frightening for many.
One of the biggest overall messages that we received through social programming may be a function of a consumer economy, however, I can’t say that for certain.
In any case, I am certain in saying that most people are walking around under the impression that their happiness and contentment are dependent on external variables, and the things that are outside of their personal control.
I’ve heard people on both sides of political spectrums talk about moving out of the country if so-and-so wins the election because the whole country will go to hell in a handbasket.
There’s no need to hang out here in my community amongst the people that have loved and nurtured me for my whole life, instead I’m going to pull the rip cord and get outta here because I won’t be able to have fun and enjoy my life if big bird is elected president.
That is a full-on surrender of any superpowers that you have and simply tapping out as a participant in your life.
You’re just going to slide over to the right side of the car and be a passenger and gosh hope things turn out well for you but at the end of the day you have no control.
This is why I like to say that the mind is just like a parachute and it only functions when open.
If you feel a lack of excitement or joy in your day-to-day life, your open mind will ask you to consider if there are ways to improve the quality of your experience and to add elements into your day that will bring you more happiness.
Furthermore, going into a particular situation or an experience with an open mind prepares you to not rely on your expectations or your desires for what an experience will bring to you and instead you stay connected to your breath and present in the moment which allows you to enjoy the experience for what it is.
Imagine if you had never seen snow in your entire life and grew up in Africa in an extremely warm climate and came to Canada in the middle of the winter.
It may be hard to be extremely excited and optimistic about enjoying yourself outside when your body may not be used to those types of temperatures and it may be very physically uncomfortable for you, especially at first.
However, when you look at the weather is simply one part of an overall experience that is rooted in the pursuit of your own greatness or pursuing your own dreams for a better life with your family, snow is just one little detail in the beautiful mosaic. that is your new life that you have created as an immigrant seeking a better future.
Bring on the snow if it means, I am bringing on a better future for my children.
Mindset.
It’s everything.
And when it comes to your own personal joy and happiness, it can be difficult to admit that you aren’t as happy as you think you could be.
When I was making a lot of money and the golf, GPS business had finally started blooming in our partnership with ClubCar. I had a beautiful wife and beautiful, healthy kids however, I felt deep down like I only had a grade “B” life because something was missing.
I wasn’t optimizing my talent, pursuing my personal greatness, and I wasn’t healing my past traumas, which left me with a ceiling of happiness that I couldn’t break through without major changes to my behavior and lifestyle.
The hard part is holding yourself accountable to these realizations when you know, they will require significant changes to your current life set up.
When you start to put it together that some changes need to be made that’s when you come back to your breath and breathing exercise exercises that help you get grounded and just envision all of the small steps she will take to get started realizing that this is a journey of 1000 steps and that you need to be patient and loving with yourself in the process.
If you are reading this NOW, you are well on your way. Breath that shit in! Be proud of yourself.
Remind others how critical your attitude is, it is the WHOLE enchilada.
